Current Mutation Stage - 3.

Alby has not yet passed Stage 3 of his mutations, but he is hoping they do not get any worse. While it might seem as though his ability is perfect for his profession inside the Facility, Alby suffers greatly at the cost of the convenience of being able to properly read his patients.

Being in large crowds makes him completely delirious and he has on multiple occasions become unconscious from the sheer activity and “emotional noise” as he calls it, inside of his head and body. Being around seriously emotional people can cause him to become physically ill, and he finds it nauseating and painful to be around others for too long.

► Observant▐ Calm▐ Calming▐ Soft-spoken▐ Understanding▐ Kind▐ Warm▐ Optimist▐ Listener▐ Social ◄

Alby is the go-to shoulder to lean on inside of the Facility. He is the one that everyone comes to with their problems, and there are many of those. Though his shoulders are the ones often cried upon, he constantly worries that they are not broad enough for everybody’s troubles.

Highly sensitive to other people’s emotions, even before his mutations started setting in, Alby is an incredibly caring and conscientious person. Considerate often to a fault, Alby always and consistently puts absolutely everybody else before himself, to the point of sacrificing his own health and welfare.

An optimist and positive thinker at heart, Alby enjoys cheering others up and having a chat even outside of his work. He is incredibly conscious of the fact that psychologists can be daunting to some people, and so makes an effort to become friendly with everyone he meets, but not personal.

Alby is on the fence with his relationships. He’s there as a friend, a support unit, and someone who is open and a welcome face to see passing in the hallways, but is also highly aware of his place in the Facility and that he must remain professional at all times - even if his idea of professionalism is a little more relaxed than most.

Generally he is very sociable, loves to party down and gets along with everyone.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
► a little deeper
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Alby has attachment issues. Though he still does, he is quite afraid of getting too close to others despite his friendly and caring personality. This is due in part to fact that, because of his profession, Alby gets much closer to people than they get to him. He is constantly in one-sided relationships with the people around the Facility.

It is also partly due to the fact that these people he has become so emotionally bonded and attached to die so frequently.

Alby has a real problem with getting too emotionally involved in his patients, and his level of understanding becomes far too deep - he literally feels what his patients are feeling, becoming deeply bonded from his side. Each time one of them leaves, he feels as though a part of his heart breaks away.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
► my experience
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Alby woke up shortly after the Director, about seven months after Taro had awoken. After getting his bearings Alby worked with the technology department and the AI to create the Regression Program for others on the station, and wrote the manual for conducting the sessions which, at this point, only he is qualified to perform.

Getting to work almost immediately Alby set up his office and started taking on patients. Alby is usually the second point of contact for newly awoken members, and enjoys being there on site when they first wake if he can make it.

Alby deals with a lot of different people and personality types inside the Facility, and is constantly challenged by his role, which he enjoys - even if sometimes it can place him in physical danger.

Prior to his mutations beginning to form, Alby was always a very open and happy person and still is for the most part, however the lack of control he now has over his own emotions is becoming torturous for him and causing him to withdraw in on himself.

Especially since the Facility is full of mostly negative emotions, Alby finds it difficult keeping his head above water with the waves of other’s grief, stress and anxiety constantly crashing over him. He’s doing his best not to drown.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
► then
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Alby had quite a rocky start to life. As an infant he had a small tumour present itself in his brain and had to have it surgically removed. He survived, obviously, and lived a quiet life in his hometown of Bristol, England, with his two Norwegian parents.

Just when everything was looking normal, at the age of 16, Alby was struck again by another tumour in his brain, very near to where his first one presented. This time the family moved to a clinic in the Swiss Alps for treatment and that “fresh air”.

Ever the optimist, Alby took the opportunity to learn as much as he could from his doctors and surgeons, and took a rather serious liking into the neurological field. While he was being treated, Alby attended school from afar and got his A levels with, disappointingly, marks too little to go into studying medicine.

While this would have upset most, especially with his condition, Alby kept his head up and instead applied for college after he had recovered from his surgery which, thankfully, was successful once again. He spent a year at college getting better grades, then attended university for psychology instead, something which he had taken a new interest in.

After a couple of years doing a degree at university, Alby's essays were noticed by one of the fellows at a medical academy, and so he was given a scholarship and went to hone his skills, eventually graduating in his mid twenties, where he was able to stay on to work as a resident psychologist for the students at the school.

Despite his history, Alby stayed positive and inspired to help others throughout it all, the fact that he had survived two operations only meant to him that he was perfectly capable at succeeding in life, and maybe even at helping others to succeed too.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
► now
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Alby is a very busy person, with all those in the Facility who rely on him for professional advice and sometimes medication, to calm their nerves and address the changes they are going through. Counselling is incredibly important for getting through each day inside the claustrophobic Facility, and Alby takes his work with a sense of heavy hearted duty. He just wants people to be happy, and to stop dying, please.

Day to day, Alby sees current patients, newly awoken patients, conducts Regression Sessions, and spends much needed quiet time in the arboretum with the dogs or by the pond relaxing when he has a chance.
