► what i have become
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

mutation: Animal Physiology (Fennec Fox)

stage 1
     » Mild Myalgia.
     » Early Ametropia.
     » Mild rash.

stage 2
     » Painful Myalgia.
     » Serious Ametropia, blurred vision.
» Rapid fur growth in certain areas.

stage 3
» Widespread, debilitating myalgia with pain extending to coccyx and lower spinal cord.
     » Complete blindness.
» Growth and reshaping of cartilage on the earlobes.

stage 4
» Extension and growth of spinal cord outwards into tail formation, causing temporary paralysis of the legs.
» Vision returns, incredibly sharp, highly light sensitive.
» Painful internal reshaping of ear canals and skull to accommodate new, fox-like ears atop head.

stage 5
» Paralysis subsides, myalgia in muscles has faded with the new growth and re-shaping of muscular forms, giving higher agility and strength in the body, and the addition of extended tail bone now covered in flesh, skin and fur.
» Eyes adjust properly to surroundings, leaving Taro with sharp vision and a better ability to see at night.
» New pair of flexible and highly sensitive ears, giving Taro heightened hearing abilities.

Fully Mutated - Successfully.

Though the whole process took a long time and left Taro completely bedridden and paralysed for several months, the Head of Security came out on top with a newfound set of animalistic senses, far better than those of a normal humans. With keen eyesight, sensitive hearing and smell, and a larger muscle mass with more flexibility aided by the balance of his tail, Taro has never been better at his job and getting around the Facility on almost silent and - if one would dare to say - elegant, footfalls. His strength and agile movements are enough to cease any undesirable situation usually before it occurs.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
► on the surface
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

► Diligent▐ Cold▐ Hard▐ Realist▐ Serious▐ Calculating▐ Efficient▐ Direct▐ Tough ◄

In Taro’s world, there isn’t much room for inefficiency or, quite frankly, fun. No-nonsense, cold and at times harsh, Taro doesn’t care for emotional situations or people who waste his time.

His diligence and strict manner is what makes him the best candidate for his position around the Facility. He has no patience for people who take it upon themselves to do the wrong thing or who put others in danger.

Painfully aware of the predicaments which face them and the ticking of the clock, Taro has a very “get on with it” approach when it comes to his work and his interactions with other people.

On the outside Taro is seemingly fearless and will take any situation head-on, after some careful calculations and decisions have been made. Some may see Taro as being somewhat thick-headed due to his tough exterior, but he is in fact incredibly intelligent and at times rather sneaky, which is always unexpected of him, and he likes it that way.

Completely stoic and hard on the outside, Taro rarely [never] lets people in and is uninterested in forming relationships unless they are beneficial to his work or his cause.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
► a little deeper
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

If one looked a little deeper, they would find that Taro has a lot of fears and anxieties, including massive anger management issues which plague him deep down. He keeps these emotions bottled up inside of him, replacing them with a wall of hard steel. Taro is also highly self-conscious of his physical deformities and mutations and does not take jests about them lightly.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
► my experience
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Though many might not believe it now, Taro was once very outspoken about his dislike for his mutations. Many take for granted (simply due to the fact that they were not around at the time) that Taro, like many others, went through excruciating pain and debilitating changes during the stages of his mutations.

This was a time of great self loathing and deep-seeded anger in Taro, and he consistently hounded the scientists and medical staff awake at the time to “do something about it”.

The first early attempt at a cure was trialled on Taro, and indeed he was one of the first to try to rid themselves of the disease plaguing them.

This, unfortunately, resulted in quite a serious case of necrosis of the skin. The “cure” caused the skin on his left side to begin to rot at the site of the injection - his left forearm. Within two days the necrosis had spread severely up his left bicep, across the left of his chest, torso, back and abdomen, and up his neck to his face.

After three days and a lot of work from the medical staff to keep Taro still and sedated enough to treat the agonising condition, the rapid spread of the necrosis was finally stopped and treated.

It was not without consequence, however. It took Taro several weeks and some skin grafts in certain areas to heal enough to be cleared.

Despite his mutations making him stronger and more agile, his hurried attempt at being cured debilitated him permanently.

His left arm suffered severe muscular and tissue damage. Taro’s arm, and left side in general, is now significantly weaker than his right, and he has trouble gripping some objects, especially if it is for a long time. It is not completely unusable, and though he would not admit it and keeps it close to his chest, his weakness is undeniable.

Taro’s mutations were at first motivating to him to find a cure and get rid of them in any way possible, but his experiences with attempting to cure them, he found, were much, much worse. This has lead Taro to be highly pro-mutation and to take a realistic mindset to how the mutations affect others.

[[bolded text indicates what he currently remembers]]
Born in Nigeria to an Egyptian father and a Japanese mother, Taro had a fairly normal upbringing. He was one of two boys, his brother very closely aged to him, and grew up in a small but modest home with his stay at home mother nearby the military base where his father worked for the government.

Taro was homeschooled, while his brother was educated at the local school. Being the eldest brother, once Taro was of age, he enlisted into the military and after a few years gained in ranks while travelling the world and fighting for a cause. He was commended for his behaviours and quickly made the army his entire livelihood.

Though he had flings here and there, Taro was never one to settle and never married or had children. When he turned thirty, Taro’s father passed away and he was put on long service leave by force and while out of service, things quickly spiralled out of control. He had been well and truly institutionalised and without the familiarity of militant life, he found comfort in alcohol and was dismissed with honours after failing several medical tests when he tried to return.

After a year of being out on his own, Taro was approached by a small government agency who were looking for people with skills such as his own. With his only other choice being to drink himself to death, Taro decided to take the offer. For four years after this, Taro worked for the agency as a professional hitman
until he was asked to participate in another, highly secretive program.

► now

Taro was the first to wake inside the Facility. Even before the Director. Spending six months alone inside the Facility, some theorise, must be the reason for Taro’s unhinged attitudes.

Many wonder what he did all that time, by himself, with only the AI and a few hundred sleeping bodies for company… But he never talks about it, and that period of time is shrouded in much secrecy.
